Replace Asterisk In Excel

We will see how to find and replace “*” in excel.

As an asterisk is a wildcard character in excel, it should be treated differently. A simple find operation in which you provide the “*” character won’t work.

Microsoft Excel uses the tilde (~) as a marker to indicate that the next character is a literal. When you use the Find and Replace dialog box to find or replace a character such as an asterisk, you must add a tilde (~) before the character in the Find what box.

Suppose we want to replace “*” asterisk in our data with nothing, meaning we want to delete the asterisk character from our data.

Press Ctrl+H to open the find and replace box in excel.

Capture

And enter “~*” in find what box and type nothing in replace box and click Replace All.

As you could see all the “*” asterisk character have been deleted.

Capture

You could also use any character or word you want to replace the “*” with.

Hope this helped.
